Book Clubs at the JBPL

Knitters' Book Club  will meet Saturday, April 12th at 9am for a "Yarn Crawl " visiting several yarn shops around the lower Cape followed by lunch at a local restaurant. Book Club will resume in May.

Mystery Book Club usually meets the 4th Thursday of the month. Next meeting -April 24, 2014,  6:45 - 7:45 pm.
Next selections: The Postcard Killers by James Patterson and Liza Marklund. New members always welcome.

Ex Libris Book Club meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 11am in the Adult Program Room. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 13th. The selection is The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje.

Wednesday Readers Book Club
meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 2pm. This month the club will be discussing  The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg.  Next meeting -April 16th.

Meet the Author - Ron Lasko - A Tale of Two Rivers
Tuesday, April 29th at 7:00 p.m. Adult Program Room

Ron Lasko writes an intimate portrait of fly-fishing on Cape Cod's Quashnet and Mashpee Rivers, seeking the unique species of Sea Run Brook Trout that once inhabited many locations. In 50 color photos, watercolor illustrations, and engaging text, presented here is a wonderful blend of the author's personal experience and the romance of fly-fishing with practical how-to instruction, historical, environmental, and ecological issues.

Light refreshments will be served. Copies of the book will be available for sale. No registration required.

Announcing the Libraries for Job Seekers Grant
Programs and Resources for Job Hunters

The Library has been awarded a grant to:

Develop a web page geared for job and career seekers

Add books and videos to the library's collection

Provide workshops on basic computer use, resume preparation, interviewing and networking skill development

Workshops begin in mid-November. See our Calendar of Events for specific dates and times.

*This grant has been awarded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners with funds from LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act), a Federal source of library funding provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.


 


Jonathan Bourne Library 2014 Peep Diorama contest
Entries must be received by Friday, April 4th
Create a Diorama of your favorite book using Marshmallow Peeps!
Contest Rules:
Each diorama must be based on a book or literary theme.
All characters must be portrayed by Peeps.
Make the diorama using a box the size of a standard shoebox - no larger than 10"X12".
Contest open to all ages - one entry per person.
All entries must be submitted with an entry form
All entries must be in good taste.
Entries must be received by Friday, April 4th and judging will take place the week of April 15th by a panel of library staff members.
There will be several categories of winners ( family, teen, child, adult).
Winners will be announced on Friday, April 18th and remain on display at the library til April 25th and must be picked up by Saturday, April 25th.

New Library Downloadable Magazines
Zinio is a mixed service - the library has purchased 50+ magazine subscriptions for our card holders.  Zinio also sells magazine subscriptions individually. To use the Library's Zinio collection, click on the link above to set up an account and to download magazines from the Bourne Public Library Collection. Once logged in to Zinio, switch back to the "Return to Library Collection" tab or window on your browser to download more titles.  We have a number of magazines to choose from, including Us Weekly, Runner's World and Men's Health.  The Zinio app will work as a reader with your Android device, tablet, I-phone, and other mobile devices.  Check out all the great magazines today.  You will need a valid Bourne Library CLAMS card to access the titles.  Click here for a users guide on how to set up your account. Please Note: Consumer Reports, BBC Good Food Magazine and Android are no longer offered by Zinio for library subscription.  The library has also cancelled subscriptions on some journals that are not heavily used.  Back issues are still available and are noted on the list of journals.

Activities for Bourne Middle School students, grade 5 and older each Wednesday afternoon include WII games, art and more, homework help and just hanging out with your friends.
